Abiding in Christ (John 15:4-5)

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5

Lord Jesus, you truly are the vine and we are the branches.

Apart from you we can do nothing.

Apart from you we would suffocate.

Apart from you we would become paralyzed.

Apart from you we would wither up and die.

You are our Life, and apart from you we have no life.

The branch of an apple tree does not strive to create an apple.

Indeed, it cannot produce an apple.

All it can do is remain connected to the tree,

and the apple comes naturally in due time.

Likewise, we can do no great thing by ourselves.

All we can do is remain connected to our Source.

Holy Spirit, thank you for leading us into all Truth.

Remind us daily of the truth that our main work is to remain connected to you.

You have promised to abide in us, now help us to remain in you.

Let us not get distracted by the busyness of this world.

No matter what is happening around us, let us find our peace in you,

the only place it truly can be found.

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!

Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Psalm 34:8

the vine needs a trellis to lift it and guide its growth and give structure
