"...always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth" - 2 Tim 3:7
There are unlimited "facts" about our universe.
Heck, there are unlimited facts about the screen you are looking at right now.
Don't believe me?
There is the size of the screen, the color of the screen, the words on the screen, the code behind the screen's user interface, the device the screen is on, the manufacturer of that device, and I could keep going.
Even if we just take a subsection of these facts, we could still spend the rest of our lives analyzing just the words on the screen. Each word has its own definition. It has its own etymology. It has its own translation into thousands of different languages. Each of those foreign words has its own etymology. We could study the frequency of the usage of each word in this document and compare it with the frequency used in all major literary works available in the public domain. We could study the shapes and sounds of each individual letter. We could look at the evolution of the pronunciation of those letters...
I think you get the point.
There are enough facts in this world to keep us busy for the rest of our lives - and then some.
If we make the goal of our lives the accumulation of facts, there is no telling where this endeavour will take us. It may take mankind to mars, or it may make someone the world's foremost expert on Justin Timberlake.
You may spend your entire life learning, and reach the end and feel as though you know nothing. This is because knowing lots of facts has precisely zero correlation to having wisdom. In other words, how much you know has nothing at all to do with how meaningful your life will be.
Some of the greatest geniuses with encyclopedic minds seem to know just about everything... except how to be happy.
It is an overused cliche, but there is no better place to use it than right here:
It's not what you know, it's who you know.
The only way to solve this dilemma of "infinite facts" (faced by all of mankind - and increasingly so in the age of the internet) is to shift our focus from knowing facts - of which there are many, to knowing Him - of which there is One.
For in Him are contained all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
He paid the price of the Cross to absorb eternity within Himself so that He could then deliver eternity to all who would receive His Spirit through faith.
The problem is so subtle that most people are unaware of its existence.
The solution is so simple that most people will refuse to accept it.
The truth is so sublime that those who know it will forever remain in awe.
At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.
Matt 11:25
Just spent time with family that I dearly love, but all the talk and chatter went nowhere because they still have not met the Lord. Without Him so much of our "Knowledge" is lies and our Wisdom isn't wise at all without Him. Praying for the Lord to dispel deception and give all of us His discernment.
