Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you. - Matthew 6:33
Every day of our lives, our minds are continuously filled with numerous different objectives. Whether its completing a project at work, finishing an assignment for school, developing a relationship, or making more money, we are always seeking to accomplish something.
Most of the time, we simply allow our minds to bounce around from one objective to the next, without giving much thought to their order of importance. Without consciously determining which objectives are most important, we can inadvertently find ourselves spending major time on minor things. It can be very difficult to hierarchically organize our many different goals and aims in life.
What we choose to be our highest aim will inevitably influence the rest of our lives. It will act as the lens through which we see the world. It’s important to ask ourselves what our highest aim is. Even if we have never consciously chosen one, we can always be made aware of what it is by simply observing our actions. Our actions demonstrate our values. What we spend the most time doing is in fact, what we value the most.
So what should we choose as our highest aim? In this passage of Scripture, Jesus gives us His answer. He tells us to ‘seek first the Kingdom of God’ and if we do this, He says, everything else will take care of itself.
It sounds so simple. Because it is.
Do not not get caught up in exactly how to seek or precisely where to seek. All that matters is that you seek, forJesus also says, the one who seeks will find.
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established - Proverbs 16:3
