The Bread of Life (John 6:35)

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst (John 6:35)

Jesus offers eternal satisfaction of all desires.

Eternity is not some point in the future. Eternity is past, present, and future all wrapped into one. This means that eternity includes NOW.

Jesus wants us to experience His peace right here in this present moment.

But many of us are not experiencing His peace.

So what gives?

Whatever we give permission to satisfy us will also have permission to disappoint us.

If we feel satisfied when other people like us, we will feel disappointed when they don't.

If we experience happiness when we win, we'll experience sadness when we lose.

Jesus provides us the key to this dilemma.

By allowing nothing except Christ to satisfy us, we give nothing except Christ permission to disappoint us.

While our flawed expectations of Jesus will often disappoint us, Jesus Himself will never disappoint us.

He can't.

If He could, He wouldn't be God.

By hungering after Jesus instead of this world, not only will we receive this world, we will be filled by God who is Love itself.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they shall be satisfied.

Matt 5:6
