The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! - John 1:29
Oh Lord, you are the Lamb of God, slain before the foundation of the world.
You died so that we may live.
You bore all our burdens on the Cross and freed us from the bondage of sin.
Through Your resurrection, You turned our eyes from earth to heaven. You captivated our minds, pierced our hearts, and purchased our souls. We forever belong to You.
You came to earth as a man so that we might recognize you. You descended to our level so that we could find You.
Then You left Your Spirit behind so that You could dwell within us for all of our days. We are forever united with You.
You did not suffer to eliminate our suffering here on earth.
No, You suffered in order that our suffering might be transformed.
You suffered so that we might find joy in persecution and peace in tribulation, and thus be a divine signpost to an unbelieving world.
You conquered so that we may also conquer.
There is no greater joy than to suffer for Your sake; to experience a glimmer of Your passion; to know a taste of Your love.
You redeemed the Cross of death and transformed it into an emblem of Life.
You showed us the Way and then said "Follow Me."
You freed us from all anxiety, fear and doubt.
You demolished death, and granted us immortality.
You removed the veil from our eyes and revealed Reality to us.
Our circumstances have lost all power over us. There is no one left who can harm us.
You revealed to us that this world is quickly passing away and our lives here are but a vapor. Our spirits are seated with You in Heaven even now. If only we had eyes to see and ears to hear, we would be lost in an eternal ocean of divine bliss.
You have revealed these truths to us, but how often we forget them.
O Helper, Holy Spirit, our Divine Friend, remind us of these things each morning.
Amen.
It is finished.
